This version is a "Beta" version. This means that it is in the testing phase and may contain bugs. Report them to bugreport@flockfiler.com.

Install New

If you have previously installed and earlier developmental FlockFiler Pro version and you want to preserve your previous FlockFiler Pro data, follow the instructions for updating FlockFiler Pro instead.

To install FlockFiler Pro for the first time, download the appropriate file above.

Microsoft Windows

Running the installer will create a "FlockFiler Pro" folder in your "My Documents" folder. This is the default and recommended location for FlockFiler Pro. The installer will create a Start Menu category for you with one item to start FlockFiler Pro and one to uninstall it.

Downloading and installing FlockFiler Pro is similar to installing FlockFiler Lite which is described in more detail here.

Macintosh

The Macintosh download is a Macintosh Disk Image. Double-click on the downloaded file to open up the disk image and mount it on your computer. Drag the "FlockFiler Pro" folder to your "Documents" folder in your user account. Eject the disk image. Open up your new "FlockFiler Pro" folder and run the application "FlockFiler Pro" found inside. You may find it convenient to add this application to your Dock.

You can install and run both FlockFiler Pro and FlockFiler Lite on the same computer. The two programs will not interfere with each other.

Upgrade from FlockFiler Lite

FlockFiler Pro can read in your records from FlockFiler Lite version 1.6.4 or later. This is not upgrading in the traditional sense of replacing your Lite version with Pro. FlockFiler Pro is installed in addition to your FlockFiler Lite. Upgrading means that the data you have in Lite is read into Pro for you to use. You may download and evaluate FlockFiler Pro in Demo mode without worrying about losing any of your FlockFiler Lite functionality.

If you intend to keep both installed, note that the two programs are completely independent of each other. Any data entry you do in FlockFiler Pro will not appear automatically in FlockFiler Lite and vice versa. The "Erase and import from Lite" feature of FlockFiler Pro will erase any existing FlockFiler Pro data you have entered and replace it with data from FlockFiler Lite.

Upgrading also means that if you are a licensed owner of FlockFiler Lite, you are eligible for discount pricing to FlockFiler Pro.

To install FlockFiler Pro and read in your Lite data...

1. When quitting FlockFiler Lite, answer "Save" at the dialog.
2. Install FlockFiler Pro as described above.
3. Copy the files "SheepData.FFR" and "LogEntryData.FFR" found in the Exports folder of your FlockFiler Lite installation and put them into the Imports folder of your FlockFiler Pro installation. You can easily locate these files by using the "Open Exports Folder" function in the Tasks menu of FlockFiler Lite.
4. Start up FlockFiler Pro.
5. Choose "Lite Update" in the "First Run" dialog that comes up. (In the successive dialogs choose "Erase" and "Delete".) Your FlockFiler Lite data will be read in automatically into FlockFiler"Pro.

Automated Assistance in Copying Files

At the end of the Windows Installer you will find an optional action that the installer can perform: "Try to copy data files from a FlockFiler Lite installation." This action will probably take care of step 2 above. If you don't have FlockFiler Lite installed on that computer or you have installed FlockFiler Lite in a nonstandard location, it won't copy any files and you will be responsible for copying those yourself.

In order to assist you with step 2 above, the Macintosh disk image contains a folder called "Updating Tools". Inside that folder is an application called "Copy FlockFiler Lite" data. Double-click that application to have the FlockFiler Lite data files copied automatically to the FlockFiler Pro area. If it cannot find your FlockFiler Lite installation in the standard place in your "Documents" folder, it will ask you where it is.

Update from an earlier FlockFiler Pro

If you have been using earlier developmental editions of FlockFiler Pro, you can have FlockFiler Pro read in your earlier data. In order for this to be successful, you must answer "Save" when shutting down your old FlockFiler Pro version for the last time before you install the new version. This will instruct FlockFiler Pro to create a FlockFilerProBakxxxx.FFP file where xxxx corresponds to the version of the previous installation. For example, the previous developmental release was 0.9.9c so the backup file it created is "FlockFilerProBak099c.FFP". If it is not already there, put a copy of this backup file in the new "FlockFiler Pro" folder.

Microsoft Windows

The default installation location for this version of FlockFiler Pro is the "FlockFiler Pro" folder of your "My Documents" folder of your user account. Your installation and update will be easier if your previous "FlockFiler Pro" folder is in "My Documents" before running the installer. If you choose to install into a different location with the installer, put your old version in that location instead.

Macintosh

The recommended installation location for FlockFiler Pro is your "Documents" folder of your user account.

Demo Mode

The Demo Mode of FlockFiler Pro works essentially the same manner as FlockFiler Lite. There will be a countdown before the program starts, a reminder dialog will come up periodically to ask you to register, and your printouts will be tainted with a demo watermark. Otherwise the Demo Mode is fully functional with no feature limitations. The 0.9.9d version will function in a trial registered mode until March 2, 2007 when it will revert to the normal demo mode. You can purcahse a license and register at any time.
